2011 Christmas Tour
For the past 7 or so years, every December has been a reminder of the grueling, awful things you have do to to make a living as s singer/songwriter. I have to hit the road for three weeks straight with my wife and ten of my best friends in the world and live out of a bus. A luxury tour bus with a slide-out in the living room. We have to drive through the night to a different city every day. Well, we don’t actually have to drive – the professional driver does that part. But while he drives, we have to sit on the couches and watch movies, play games or just talk to each other before we retire into our personal bunks equipped with our own TVs. And when we get to the new town we have to get up before 1PM for soundcheck. It is a rough life.
The worst part is that every night we get to play music together. The first half of the show, I join my wife (Jill Phillips), Andrew Peterson, Ben Shive, Andrew Osenga and Jason Gray for a couple of rounds of songs. I admire all of these songwriters and it is pure torture to share the stage with them. After the intermission, we all come out to play through my friend Andrew Peterson’s record – Behold the Lamb of God. It is a fantastic work of art and it makes for a very enjoyable show.
We hit the road here in a couple of days with the first show in Huntsville, AL on December 1st. The tour will end in Nashville on the 18th at the Ryman Auditorium. Come out and say hello if I am coming to a town near you. For more information on these shows, click here.
