Beyond The Frame Fall Tour

It feels funny calling anything of mine a “Fall Tour”, but I guess that is technically what it is – a tour in the fall.

This fall I will have my new record out (releases in August) and I can’t wait to play some shows in support of it. I have been talking with folks about the weekends that are available and it looks like the schedule could fill up quickly.

I have some conversations going about shows in these areas: Minnesota / Memphis / Seattle / Vancouver / Portland / Ohio / Massachusetts / Oklahoma / North Carolina / Utah

If you are interested in adding a house show or concert to any of these areas – or any new areas for that matter, please let me know. I have a lot of stuff floating around right now and will probably settle on the dates here pretty soon.

New Austin Show Added

I will be back in my hometown of Austin, TX a few times in the next month. In addition to my show with Edie Carey and Sarah Sample at Hummingbird House Concerts on Saturday, April 27th, and my solo show at Hill House Concert Series on Friday, May 10th, I will be opening for Matt The Electrician at Wyldwood House Concerts in Austin on Saturday, May 11th. I have been a fan of Matt’s music for a while now and am honored that he would include me in the evening’s festivities. Hope to see you there – at all three shows.

What I Learned from George Carlin

I recently wrote a blog post for The Tokens Show about George Carlin and bowling. For those of you that are turned off by the lowbrow-ness of those subjects, it is really about regular vaccinations and our immune system. You can read it here.

I will be joining Andrew Peterson’s Behold The Lamb of God Christmas Tour again this year. This year’s lineup is Andrew Peterson, me, Jill Phillips, Andrew Osenga, Matthew Perryman Jones and Ben Shive. I just might be coming to a city near you. More details are on the shows page.

Dear Diary, I am working on a new record

I don’t know why I ever expected my posts on my website to be more frequent and regular than my diary entries as a kid. I feel like I need to apologize for not writing more often and then let you know everything that has happened since the last entry. So here goes:

I am sorry.

I have been playing a bunch of shows, producing a record for Brazilian brothers, and working on a new record.

I was hoping to have this new record done and ready for the Christmas tour this year, but I hit a point in October when it was really clear that I could either choose to have a finished record or to spend any time with my kids. I caved in to the pressure to look like a good father and decided to be present to my kids. Now you can all pat me on the back.
I hope to finish it up soon, however, because I am very excited about the songs on it. I can’t wait for tens of people to buy it. I will keep you updated on the process – once a year, apparently.

Coming to Chicago and Green Bay

As part of my NFC North tour* with Jill Phillips, we will be playing shows for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. I know that sounds like I am actually playing these concerts for the football teams but the truth is I am playing the concerts for you. For everybody. If the team decides to show up, that is fine with me. But I insisted that we would be able to open it up to people like me – people who aren’t in shape enough to play professional sports.

The tour begins in Green Bay, WI this Saturday night – April 28th – at the Cup o’ Joy. The doors open at 6:30PM and the show starts at 7:30.

The tour concludes with a Sunday night in Chicago, IL at the Chopin Theater in Wicker Park on April 29th. This show begins at 7:30 PM as well and tickets are available here.

I hope you can make it!

*the NFC North tour only covers half of the NFC North cities. There are only 4 cities in the NFC North. So the tour reaches a whopping 2 cities.

Where I want to go in 2012

I am looking at my calendar for 2012 and am excited about what is in store.

I start working on Andrew Peterson’s new record next week.

I should start working on my new record fairly soon as well.

I also have some shows booked through October in some of my favorite places.

But while we are all still in the mode of making (and breaking) New Year’s resolutions and creating “Top 10” lists, I figured this would serve as my list of places I would love to go visit and book shows in for 2012. Actually, this post will only pose as a list of cities I would like to visit. The subliminally manipulative part of this post that you are unaware of and will continue to be unaware of, is that I am actually trying to convince people in those particular parts of the country to book me for shows there.

Here is how it should work:

Reader: “Oh! Look, honey! Andy Gullahorn said that he really wants to visit Reno, Nevada this year. That is weird. That is where WE live!!! You know what? I am not sure if he would want to do this or not, but what if we asked him to come play a show here? And we paid him a bunch of money.* What a great idea I just came up with on my own accord! I will email him at ANDY at ANDYGULLAHORN.COM to see if he will come!”

So let me get on with my list of the TOP 10 places I would love to “visit” in 2012.

But first, It should be noted that this is not a list of my TOP 10 favorite places to visit. Many of my favorite places are already on my schedule for this year. Many of my other favorite places have been visited recently by me. So to be fair, let me get on with …

My list of the TOP 10 places I would love to “visit” in 2012 that I haven’t visited in a long time or ever.

1. San Diego, CA – Who wouldn’t want to visit San Diego? The ONLY bad thing about this place is that you have to PAY to play disc golf.

2. Las Vegas, NV – I hated Las Vegas the first time I went. Let’s just say that I don’t hate it anymore. I would love to have a legitimate reason to go back. Maybe during a playoff weekend or March Madness?

3. Orlando, Fl – I typically get to Florida a lot which is fine by me. But my kids are really itching for some disney/harry potter theme park time.

4. Cedar Rapids, IA – Not only is this a tourist hot-spot, it would also give me a good chance to go visit my friends Jody and John.

5. Ireland – Why not?

6. Utah – In all of my years of traveling, I don’t think I have ever played in Utah. Come on, Mormons!

7. Wyoming – I think Wyoming is one of only two states I have never visited. Also, I used to be a cowboy.

8. Hawaii – speaking of places I have never visited … I know this place is boring, but I would just love to go and minister to the people there.

9. Montana – I really want to go fly-fishing again on the Gallatin River.

10. Mississippi – I know you would tell me to be careful what I ask for, but I have not had a chance to play in Mississippi in the last 13 years. I think it is about time.

11. New Orleans – I still like that place. And it will be fun to visit after they win the Superbowl this year.

Yes, I know there are 11 places in my top 10. When you make your own top 10 list, you can put as many items on there as you want.

* “a bunch of money” is subjective

I have a new website

Al Gore

Hey folks. Welcome to the newest representation of Yours Truly on the world wide interweb. I have a weird history with websites. Due to the fact that I am cheap, I have always created my own websites. The problem is that I know little to nothing about websites.

The first couple of sites were built on Microsoft Word. You aren’t really supposed to do that, but I didn’t know. The good news was that I had one of the best Microsoft Word websites on the internet back then. The bad news was that I was the only one with a Microsoft Word website. And it sucked.

2011 Christmas Tour

For the past 7 or so years, every December has been a reminder of the grueling, awful things you have do to to make a living as s singer/songwriter. I have to hit the road for three weeks straight with my wife and ten of my best friends in the world and live out of a bus. A luxury tour bus with a slide-out in the living room. We have to drive through the night to a different city every day. Well, we don’t actually have to drive – the professional driver does that part. But while he drives, we have to sit on the couches and watch movies, play games or just talk to each other before we retire into our personal bunks equipped with our own TVs. And when we get to the new town we have to get up before 1PM for soundcheck. It is a rough life.
